Designed as the first in a range of planet friendly cycle storage solutions, the Loxley shelter is made from timber from a FSC certified source creating a beautiful looking and very hard-wearing cycle shelter to show off your commitment to sustainability.
Wood farmed from FSC certified forests is completely renewable and the forests themselves are managed responsibly. The timber in the shelter has been specially treated with Tanalith® E which protects the structure from fungal decay and insect attack. Tanalith® E is an organic, water based wood preservative which we have chosen over more traditionally used plastic based preservatives.
We have eliminated all plastic from the shelter by using a galvanised steel rood covering and even plastic free alternatives in the locknuts and washers (usually Nyloc nuts which contain plastic are used for shelters).
Not only is the wood recyclable, but so is the galvanised steel used in the shelter! These are the only two materials used in the Loxley shelter, so the whole thing from top to bottom can be reused, repurposed or recycled.
The Loxley is designed to accommodate our two tier cycle racks, but can be built to bespoke heights to fit Streetpods or other cycle racks. You can download the Loxley shelter specification sheet here.
Why is FSC certified wood such a great option?
Well, not only is it far more attractive than steel but for every cubic metre of wood used as a substitute for other materials displaces an average of 1.1 tonnes of CO2.
Wood also uses less energy to extract and harvest than other resources, and unlike other resources is not finite.
